moves – International Festival of Movement on Screen brings the latest must-sees of experimental cinema and inspiring video art to Merseyside from 27 April to 1 May 2011 – and most of it you can experience for FREE!

A multicultural feast, moves will takeover the renowned Bluecoat in Liverpool – among other venues – and unfurl an awe-inspiring packed four-day programme with something for everyone – including screenings, events, talks and lots of opportunities to get involved.

Exploring the theme INTERSECTIONS: Filming across Culture & Technology artists and filmmakers will challenge conventional limitations through screen-based art forms.

Festival highlights include the UK premiere of Catalan artist group Electrotoylets’ latest interactive video-game performance; hands-on filmmaking experience at moves Filmmaking LAB, and the most recent movement on screen and video art research presented by international and local speakers including Kristin Scheving, Artistic Director 700IS Reindeerland, Iceland; Alberto Magno, Curator and Director Fabrica de Movimentos, Portugal; Andras Süli, Project Coordinator MODEM, Hungary; Claudia Kappenberg, Founder of the International Screendance Journal; and Liverpool-based lecturer and choreographer Pauline Brooks with students from local profile university LJMU IM Marsh.

Famed for its eclectic range of international experimental short films, moves carefully handpicked the very latest boundary-pushing video works for you out of nearly 500 international submissions. This is an unrivalled créme de la créme screening programme featuring artistic work from more than 20 countries coming right to your doorstep and is unmissable!

moves also proudly hosts the final exhibition of the Alternative Routes project; a European festival network promoting artistic and cultural exchange. International curators from Iceland, Portugal and Hungary, among others, will be in Liverpool celebrating with us the success of this international collaboration, which will culminate in the launch of the Alternative Routes catalogue.
